We are ready for the next Official Dressage Competition on Saturday 15 June. The link to the nomination can be found here https://forms.gle/iBmvJeXqkhVCiVU68
There has been a change of plans in relation to the weekend and we are very pleased to welcome Elizabeth Owens as the Judge officiating for the weekend. Elizabeth with also be offering Protocol tests on Sunday 16 June.
FORMAT FOR JUNE 15th & 16th
What is a Judge Protocol Session?
Judge Protocol training for dressage refers to the rider riding a test of choice, the judge judges it and gives feedback to the rider on how to improve the riding of the test with the view of gaining more marks. After discussion, the judge may ask the rider to ride some movements again or ride the whole test again.
The judge is there to give feedback to the rider but does not coach the rider. These days are not riding clinics as such. Essentially it is not much different from a rider discussing the test with the judge after a competition except that there is an opportunity to repeat movements.
For example, the judge might point out that for a higher mark the rider needs to ensure the steps don’t get shorter or slower, or that there needs to be more angle in a shoulder-in. Or they may assist with confirming what is the correct frame to ride in. It is not a competition.
The process is very good educational tool and generates cooperation between judges, riders and coaches. It will benefit riders at all levels. The rider could ride a test at a level they have not yet competed to get a sense of whether they are ready to step up without the public pressure of competition.
Happy riding

Nadine Merewether is back in Geraldton for her first clinic of the year. Nadine Merewether is a level 3 NCAS general instructor and a A level Dressage Judge (who has since retired from judging to fulfil her passion of teaching). Nadine is highly sought after, so we are extremely lucky to get her up here.
Nadine competed successfully in Show Horse, Dressage and Eventing before specializing in Dressage and produced a number of successful horses. She has also ridden successfully in competition at state and national level. She trained and rode the Lipizzaner stallion 'Pluto Nimo XII", owned by Georgina Beard, through to Prix St Georges and gave many memorable long reining dressage displays with him.
OTTWA have generously sponsored these clinics, so if you have a TB or Standardbred, please supply your passport number. Every OTTWA rider with a passport will be subsidized 20% of their clinic fee.
